Cytokinesis
Some implications of polarized cytokinesis
1) Short range interactions at the cell periphery may play an important role in guiding cell plate development and positioning from early stages of cell plate formation.
2) Progressive cortical fusion may provide mechanical stability for the developing cell plate in vacuolate cells.
3) There may be no global checkpoints for the final events of cytokinesis - fusion of the cell plate with the cell periphery is a continous process over the course of cell plate development.
4) Some wall stubs observed in drug treated cells and in cytokinetic mutants may be the simple result of normal polar cytokinesis aborted at an early stage.
